Houston was issued a boil water notice until further notice. My spirit immediately went to three things…the appeasing of the ocean Orisas (Yemonja, Olokun, Agwe, Mami Wata)… the electricity Orisas Ogun and Sango, (due to a power outage)and having to bring back the ways our ancestors bathed themselves in the ancient days.

Ironically, last week I downloaded several renditions of Wade in the Water for 222.9 The Mothership Internet Radio’s Sunday rotation…the synchronizations are getting to be more normal in the spiritual-heads-up department. The Waters need our attention. It does much for us that we may take for granted. Let’s collectively pray healing into the waters of the world, both physically and of collective emotion. After all, the waters that we have to boil now all irrigate into our homes by way of the world’s oceans, rivers, streams, springs, and reservoirs. For those that practice nature based faiths, let’s take this time to appease the spirits of the waters, manifesting their healing and balance. Doing so could bring ire (blessings) for all. Appease the spirit of The Waters before boiling water for use.

Boiling water and basin bathing is actually an ancient practice. Many of our ancestors bathed this way when they didn’t have tubs. Of course those that have tubs did still boiled water for bathing. Since we have to boil water for the time being anyway, add some spirituality to it! Allow yourself to experience the ancient ways. Add some essential oils to your basin, large bowl, or bathtub along with your prayers. The moon is still waxing, so pray for things you’d like to increase. Pour the boiling water in, allowing it to steep the essence of your herbs, flowers, and prayers. If this is done after nightfall, treat yourself to some candles and aromatherapy, and soothing music. Do this bath before a mirror with the lights off if you are using a basin or bowl. As you cleanse your body, remove spiritual residue along with physical dirt, and take a few minutes to meditate after the bath.

Situations like boil water notices can understandably invoke feelings of panic and discord. But when you allow yourself to be fluid, like water, you allow yourself to maximize even the unpleasant moments.
