-a short ode to the moon by iiiYansaje T. Muse

For those of us that love to align with Her, the moon is very powerful in prayer, manifestation, gardening, and other spiritual timings. In Orisa tradition, the moon is sacred to Yemoja, the goddess of the sea, the womb, and motherhood. When the moon is new, it is black, nearly invisible in the sky…fresh off of waning and headed into wax. New moons are good times to set intentions, then work towards then as the moon waxes to full. The zodiac house that the moon is new in gives a deeper clue as to how to align with it.

When the moon is new in Gemini, She is calling you to examine your dualities in preparing to manifest. Gemini is the mutable air sign of the zodiac, the one that learns of itself through experiences with others. It is ruled by the Messenger planet to the gods and goddesses, Mercury. Orisa calls Him Esu. When the moon is new in this house, setting external intentions may be less effective than examining your internal ones. This is important because typically, many of us deal mainly with the surface parts of ourselves that are polite to society, while repressing other aspects of ourselves. This is a great moon for shadow work to sweep out debris from the waning moon…to create a cleaner slate for what’s to wax. Your external world manifests from within…so this is a good time to shamelessly examine your polarities…so your intentions can come from a deeper place.

What needs to be left behind?

What areas of your being need more of your energy?

Are you manifesting things to serve your spirit or your ego?

Are your ego and spirit working together or against each other?

What truths or feelings are you suppressing? WHY?

Exploring and embracing the truth of your dualities can really help you find inner peace, clarity, and balance…then your energy is set for manifestation! You can go deeper into what new moons in Gemini mean to you personally by exploring the third house, and where Mercury is in your astrology chart. Explore every place in your astrology chart where Gemini appears. People with sun signs in Gemini may feel the greatest surge of power. For those of you that practice Orisa traditions, offerings to Yemoja and Esu would be ideal. Happy New Moon, and beam up!
